Podcast Episode 87 — Fear Looks Like Procrastination in Your Business — Here's What It's Actually Costing You
You know the automation I'm talking about. The one that fires the second a new lead comes in, starts a conversation, and keeps them warm without you touching a thing.
You've heard about it. You've opened GHL and clicked around before closing the tab and going back to following up one contact at a time, by hand. And every week that passes without it built, you tell yourself the same thing. Soon. When things slow down. When you finally have a full day to sit with it.
In this episode I name what that actually is, and then we fix it.
Fear Wearing the Clothes of Procrastination
Here's what I see constantly when I work with women building on GHL. They know what to build. They have the platform. They have the tools. And they are not building.
When I ask why, I hear the same three things. I don't want to set it up wrong. I need to understand it better first. I'm not ready yet. Those aren't logistics. Those are fear, dressed up as a scheduling problem.
Done and imperfect beats perfect and unbuilt, every single time. Your follow-up automation doesn't need to be flawless on day one. It needs to exist. An imperfect automation following up with your leads is infinitely better than you, manually, whenever you remember to.
What Delayed Follow-Up Is Actually Costing You
Responding to a new lead within five minutes makes you 100 times more likely to connect with that lead than if you wait 30 minutes. A hundred times.
Now think about your actual response time, not your intention. If you're following up manually, the honest answer is probably hours, maybe the next day. And every hour that passes, a lead's excitement cools. She moves on. She forgets she even opted in.
Say you get 20 new leads a month and your average response time is a few hours. Industry data puts your connection rate somewhere around 20 to 30 percent by the time you reach them. With a speed-to-lead automation firing in seconds instead, that connection rate climbs, in some cases it doubles. The leads are the same leads. The offer is the same offer. The only thing that changed is how fast you showed up.
That gap compounds every week you wait to build it.
The Three Fears Behind the Delay
"What if it sounds robotic?"
Your automation will sound exactly as robotic as you let it. You write the messages. You put your voice into it. If the first version isn't right, you go back in and adjust it. GHL isn't a one-time build, it's a living system you improve as you learn.
"What if I set it up wrong and something breaks?"
Test mode exists for this exact reason. Run the workflow on yourself first. Send yourself through it. See what it looks like from the lead's side before it ever goes live. You are not going to break GHL.
"What if I build it and it still doesn't work?"
This is the real one. As long as the automation isn't built, there's always a reason to point to: the tool, the timing, the learning curve. Once it's built and running, the results are the results, and that feels exposed. Build it anyway. You can't optimize something that doesn't exist yet.
The Five-Step Build
Small and focused, not a fifteen-step branching sequence.
Step one. Open your GHL workflows and create a new one. Trigger: contact created, or form submitted, depending on how your leads come in.
Step two. Add an SMS action. Write one message, conversational, in your voice. Something like: "Hey, I saw you just grabbed [whatever they opted in for]. I wanted to reach out personally. What's the biggest thing you're working through in your business right now?"
Step three. Add a follow-up email 24 hours later. Lead with value, not a pitch.
Step four. Test it on yourself. Submit your own form, watch the workflow fire, and read every message as if you're the lead. Adjust anything that doesn't sound like you.
Step five. Turn it on.
That's the whole build, and you can finish it in under two hours. The moment it's live, you have a system that never sleeps, never forgets, and never lets a warm lead go cold because you were busy.
Where to Start
You already know this automation needs to exist in your business. The only friction left is the fear sitting between you and the build. Name it, move through it, and build the thing.
If you want to build it with support instead of alone, come do it live with us. Our 5-Day Challenge runs August 24 through 28, and you'll walk away with a real, working GHL follow-up automation, in your voice, running on autopilot.
