Season has a purpose

Seasons Shift — So Should You

November 26, 20253 min read

Every entrepreneur goes through seasons — and I’m not talking about the weather. I’m talking about the life seasons, business seasons, and those deeply personal cycles that quietly shape how we operate behind the scenes.

It’s Natasha here, sharing this week’s Self-Made Memo, and I’ve been reflecting on how easy it is to forget the season we’re actually in. Because truth be told, some seasons in business demand a lot more from you.

More time.
More mental bandwidth.
More emotional fuel.

And when that happens, something has to shift. Not forever — but for that season you’re walking through.

The Checks and Balances of Growth

One of the frameworks that continues to save my sanity (and the structure of the business) is something I call the Checks and Balances of the Season.

Every 90 days, I take a step back and ask:

  • What season am I in?

  • What’s the clear goal by the end of it?

  • What needs to shift in life to make room for that goal?

From there, I reverse engineer how to get things done without running myself into the ground. It’s a dance — sometimes a messy one — but it works. This approach keeps me grounded, focused, and realistic about what’s required in that moment of growth.

A Real-Life Example: From Football to Basketball Season

Right now, we’re in a transition phase at home. My boys just wrapped football and shifted into basketball — and let me tell you, the entire rhythm of life changes.

Different skills.

Different pace.
Different mindset.
Different practice schedule.

Football demands power, grit, and intense discipline. Basketball demands agility, finesse, mental sharpness, and constant movement.

But the values stay steady:

  • Work hard.

  • Show up.

  • Support the team.

  • Play for something bigger than yourself.

That’s the glue — no matter the season.

The Business Tie-In: You Can’t Grow the Same Way in Every Season

In business, this matters more than people realize. You simply can’t expect to grow the same way in every season of your entrepreneurial journey.

What worked when you had wide-open evenings might not work during a launch, onboarding ramp-up, or when you’re pushing toward a major revenue milestone.

Knowing your season helps you:

🗓 Set a realistic completion date
🎯 Identify the goal you’re truly chasing
⏱ Decide what to dial up — and what to dial back

The most important piece?

Honor the season you’re in.
Don’t judge it.
Don’t compare it.
Just adjust.

Because when your systems match your season, the momentum becomes unstoppable.
